'EMPIRE' HITS 2016 NAB SHOW

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Key members of the team behind FOX’s runaway hit series EMPIRE will appear at NAB Show next month in Las Vegas. Fox Television Group Chairmen and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman, EMPIRE showrunner Ilene Chaiken and actor and musician Bryshere “Yazz” Gray from the show will participate in the general session “EMPIRE: Inside the Mega-hit Broadcast Series” which will be moderated by Michael Schneider, executive editor at IndieWire and editor-at-large at Variety. The session, which is open to all attendees, is scheduled for Tuesday, April 19th at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

In today’s “golden age” of television, it is increasingly difficult to create a show that resonates across audience demographics and keeps viewers coming back for more. During this dynamic session, attendees will hear how FOX successfully turned EMPIRE into a hit, as panelists ranging from programmers at the corporate level to the showrunner and talent, discuss how they brought the series’ characters to life.
EMPIRE, broadcast television’s No. 1 series, returns for its spring premiere Wednesday, March 30 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. From Academy Award nominee Lee Daniels (“Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” “Precious”), Emmy Award winner Danny Strong (“Game Change,” “Lee Daniels’ The Butler”) and Academy Award- and Emmy Award-winning producer Brian Grazer (“A Beautiful Mind,” “24”), the hit drama is about a family dynasty, set within a world of music, glamour, danger and power.

EMPIRE showrunner Ilene Chaiken recently signed a multi-year producing deal with 20th Century Fox Television. Chaiken created and executive-produced “The L Word” for Showtime, and additionally produced “The Real L Word” and “The Real L Word Mississippi,” which won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Documentary.
An accomplished musician, Bryshere “Yazz” Gray plays “Hakeem Lyon” on EMPIRE. Gray has opened for rappers Fabolous and 2 Chainz and appeared on the Billboard Music Awards and “Good Morning America.”
Prior to his current role as Executive Editor at Indiewire and Editor-at-Large for Variety, Michael Schneider was the chief content officer at TV Guide Magazine, where he also helped launch the website TV Insider. Before TV Guide, Schneider served as TV editor for Variety and Daily Variety, a post he held from 1999 through 2011.
Schneider is also a regular contributor to Los Angeles public radio station KCRW, where he hosts "The Spin-Off," a podcast about the TV industry, and also appears on the Hollywood-focused radio program "The Business." As a television expert, Schneider has appeared on ABC "World News Tonight" and "Primetime Live," NBC's "Today" show and "Dateline NBC," CBS' "Early Show," "Access Hollywood," E! News Daily, CNN, MSNBC, NPR and many other programs and outlets.

Ce noutati aduce aceasta lege pentru manageri?
Exista trei schimbari importante impuse in noua lege, care privesc in mod direct companiile.
Organizatia si voluntarul vor semna un contract cadru - Contractul contine drepturile si obligatile fiecarei parti si se inregistreaza doar intern, fara sa fie necesara inregistrarea la Fortele de Munca. In cazul in care voluntarul nu-si mai poate continua activitatea in cadrul organizatiei, contractul se poate anula cu un preaviz de 15 zile.
Voluntariatul este recunoscut ca si experienta profesionala - Voluntariatul este deja recunoscut in unele tari din Europa, precum si in Statele Unite. Dar ce inseamna acest lucru? Voluntariatul ca experienta profesionala nu este echivalent cu vechimea in munca. De asemenea, este foarte important de retinut ca voluntariatul nu este inclus in sistemul de asigurari sociale si in sistemul de pensii. Daca voluntarii nu sunt studenti si nici angajati, dar se implica in voluntariat, sunt nevoiti sa-si plateasca singuri asigurarea de sanatate.
Organizatia elibereaza un certificat de competente la cererea voluntarului - Certificatul conţine 8 competente cheie si anume comunicare scrisa, comunicare verbala, competente lingvistice, digitale, antreprenoriale, interpersonale, civice si sociale, lucrul in echipa si cooperarea. Certificatul poate contine si alte competente, daca persoana care evalueaza voluntarul considera ca acesta si le-a dezvoltat prin activitatile sale.
Certificatul se elibereaza dupa un stagiu de minimum 120 de ore, daca voluntarul si-a incheiat atributiile. Certificatul se elibereaza doar daca voluntarul isi indeplineste atributiile. In caz contrar, organizatia poate refuza eliberarea certificatului.

DRM Readies for April General Assembly - NAB 2016
The first week of April has been set for members of the broadcast industry to head for Erlangen, Germany, to attend the 2016 General Assembly of the Digital Radio Mondiale Consortium. The event will be held at Fraunhofer IIS headquarters with the theme of “Digital Radio Mondiale — Smart Radio for Everyone.”
According to DRM, the three-day conference, which runs from April 5–7, will let DRM members and invited guests of the General Assembly and European workshop meet and share information on DRM, as well as review DRM activities and achievements of the last year. DRM Chairman Ruxandra Obreja also says the meeting will provide the opportunity to discuss the challenges and strategy for next year.
The General Assembly will kick off on April 5 and continue the morning of April 6. Starting on the afternoon of April 6, the General Assembly will overlap with DRM’s first European workshop, focusing on the radio receiver and car industry. -

NAB SHOW LAUNCHES MULTICULTURAL TV & VIDEO CONFERENCE
WASHINGTON, D.C.-- The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) is introducing the new Multicultural TV & Video Conference, taking place Wednesday, April 20 in Las Vegas during the 2016 NAB Show, the world's largest annual conference and expo for professionals who create, manage and distribute entertainment across all platforms. The conference will focus on how media companies can best capitalize on the diverse audiences inherent to television and other video content viewing, particularly related to talent, content development, brand advertising and publicity.
“As our society becomes increasingly multicultural, it creates unique challenges and opportunities for television and video content providers striving to reach diverse audiences in meaningful ways,” said NAB Executive Vice President of Communications Dennis Wharton. “We are pleased to present a new conference at NAB Show dedicated to this important issue.”
Olympic gold medalist and 10-time world champion in six divisions and among the biggest draws in the history of the sport of boxing, Oscar De La Hoya will keynote the conference. Since retiring from the ring in 2009, he has focused his attention on building the company he founded, Golden Boy Promotions, into one of the most successful boxing promotion companies in the world that also represents the sport’s newest pay-per-view superstar Canelo Alvarez. De La Hoya has also earned recognition as a Grammy-nominated singer and active philanthropist and for his contributions to the Mexican American community. The opening session is titled “Rolling With the Punches: Launching New Channels for Diverse Audiences,” which speaks to Golden Boy Promotions and De La Hoya’s vision for his recently launched RingTV Live.
Other conference sessions address topics such as cultivating a diverse talent pool. “How Do Diverse Voices Matter?,” 10:45-11:45 a.m., features Kelly Edwards, vice president of Talent Development for Programming at HBO; Donna Michelle Anderson, president of Planet DMA; and DuJuan McCoy, owner, president & CEO of Bayou City Broadcasting.
“Getting to Know You: More Research + More Data = More Viewers?,” 2:30 - 3:15 p.m. focuses on evaluating diverse audience segments by utilizing research, data and measurement techniques. Panelists includes Eliana Murillo, head of Multicultural Marketing at Google, and Carol Hinnant, senior vice president, National Television at comScore, and Adriana Waterston, senior vice president, Insights and Strategy at Horowitz Research.
Another session in development will address the so-called “three cultures of content” that attract diverse viewers on multiple video platforms. Those “cultures” include culturally-specific content, like in-language programming; culturally-inclusive content, which attracts a broad audience but features characters and story lines about a particular culture; and cross-cultural content, which is programming initially intended for one culture, but with some adaptation, can appeal to a broader audience. Panelists represent broadcast, cable and digital platforms.
Other session topics include driving revenue and advertising and the effect of multicultural television and video on the 2016 election. The full conference schedule will be updated as speakers are confirmed.
